1 June 1953 – “Walter Sam Farrar, of 224 S. Jefferson St., died in Roanoke Sunday morning of a heart attack while visiting relatives.
“Mr. Farrar was a son of the late William Charles and Delia Cralle Farrar and was a native of Appomattox County, but had made his home in Petersburg for many years. He was a yardmaster for the Nitrogen Division of the Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation of Hopewell. He was a member of Dinwiddie Lodge of Masons and First Baptist Church.
“Surviving are one son, Elmo Cawthorne Farrar, of this city; three brothers: Norman E. Farrar, of Pamplin; Omah P. Farrar of Prospect; and W. Bernard Farrar, of Burkeville; four sisters: Mrs. Russell Cawthorne. of Sports [sic] Spring; Mrs. Leslie W. March, of Lynchburg; Mrs. James D. McDearmond of Appomattox; and Mrs. W. H. McDearmond, of Lynchburg; also a number of nieces and nephews.
“Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son. Dr. William W. Leathers, Jr., pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate and interment will be in Blandford Cemetery.”
